In order to avoid edema during pregnancy, a pregnant woman should wear maternity stockings and use low-heeled shoes.Avoid salty foods and junk food as much as possible. Drink a lot of fluids. Exercise or walking is also advisable. Try to elevate your feet at night when you go to sleep.

Another benefit in wearing maternity stockings is to prevent the enlargement of veins which is normally caused by both hormonal changes and the uterus exerting pressure on the veins of your legs. The pregnant woman should also put the legs up when she can and avoid standing for long periods.

I just started wearing maternity stockings last night. I only wear it when I’m at home.

  2. >Maternity stockings?After all my pregnancies, I’m still amazed.We were told not to wear them untill there was a strict indication.Otherwise the muscles and other structures in your leg get lazy and in the end you’ll have more problems than benefit.
